Know Your Tartan - It Has Meaning

Commando Heritage No.1 tartan is based upon the sett of the Cameron Highlanders, originally the 79th Regiment of Foot. The gold and red are clan colours and are retained in reduced form.

Navy Blue, Scarlet and Light identify the Royal Navy, Army and Air Force and the intersection of the Red on Darker Blue a symbol of the original Combined Operations shoulder patch of WW2.

The dark forest green predominates throughout as the colour of the coveted Green Beret of the Commandos.

Black a colour of reflection and respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service of their countries and freedom from tyranny.

Again the scarlet symbolises the blood spilt through the generations of Commandos and Special Forces during countless operations in hostile environments.

Gold, uppermost, represent the consistent high quality of Commando and Special Forces training in UK & among our Allied Nations.

There exists many other parallels or symbolism with the tartan:

Green on Red for the Salamander of No.1 Commando; Red the colour of lanyard of 45 (FOUR-FIVE) Royal Marines Commando, Red/Gold the lanyard of 43 (FOUR-THREE) RM Commando, Black for hackle of No.11 (Scottish) Commando...

Every thread a tribute to the giants on whose shoulders we stand today.

"WE WILL REMEMBER THEM"
